Description
The Little Red Church is a Multi-denominational Church in Acadiana that has been used for multiple generations. It is in a rural community and when the church was first built preachers came to it each weekend. Services were scheduled every 2-3 hours on the weekends. Since vehicles were invented and highways were built the congregation began going to meet the preachers at their churches. Once a year however this multi-denominational church has a service. A different preacher is usually invited each year who has ties to the church either through their family or because their church has a history of using The Little Red Church as a mission Chapel. Over the last 40 years Protestant Preachers, Catholic Priest, and Evangelical Preachers has preached at the annual service. Each one making sure that everyone feels welcomed at the service. People who have ties to the church come from far and near. The church seats 50-60 people, but the green shutters are opened and the windows lifted and both inside and outside Christians of different denominations or Non-denominational sing with one voice. A small Cemetery is behind the church and the names of any church member who was laid to rest over the last year is mentioned if he was buried in the Little Red Church Cemetery or even buried far away in another Cemetery. The Cemetery holds the graves of people who lived during the time of the Civil War. One such lady who wrote about her own experiences during the Civil war's great, great grandson was buried in The Little Red Church Cemetery last year and her great three times and great four times grandchildren attended the service.
