Description

As a young child my Daddy often took me to my Grandma's house for Mardi Gras. Every year I heard stories about my Grandpa's Mardi Gras. They told of how he would climb up on the chicken house with 2 of Grandma's finest hens to throw out for the Mardi Gras runners to catch. Grandma said she often stood on the back porch holding her rice sack tight tight, as if that would keep Grandpa from falling off the roof. She said she always took one of her sons or grandsons on the porch to catch her least she pass out from fear if she heard Grandpa fall. Well Grandpa never did fall and Grandma never passed out. Everyone in my family still talks of Grandpa's Mardi Gras. Grandpa died when I was only a little bitty baby less than half a year old. Now I'm a Grandma of ten grandchildren. I was probably his youngest at the time of his death. His story has been told to 6 generations. I paint to preserve the stories I hear of life in Acadiana the south central region settled by the Cajuns. I especially love painting the stories of my family.
