Downtown Opelousas Mardi Gras Celebration

Get into the carnival spirit with live music featuring Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie! This event is dedicated to preserving and promoting our distinct Cajun and Creole roots that are traced back to the citys rich history. This celebration is held the Friday before Mardi Gras day every year featuring a contest for the best Mardi Gras costume with prizes to be given away.

This year's celebration will also welcome local artist Geraldine Soileau (Seaux N. Seau). Geraldine loves painting things that she imagines could have happened at Mardi Gras like riders on chickens, chickens playing music, and chickens disguised as other animals to avoid being caught for the gumbo.
