Description
I have been making screen mask for Courir de Mardi Gras celebrations over 40 years. The first step is to paint the screen for mask. I use to wrap the table I was working with in plastic and discard it. One day I was out of plastic and opened up a large cardboard box and placed the screen on the cardboard to paint. When I was done and the mask dried I took off the mask and placed the cardboard in the trash can. It was sticking out and one of my friends came to visit. She caught sight of the cardboard and squealed with delight at the image and then scold me for throwing great art away. After that I began laying the screen on canvas to paint them. The residue from the paint on the screen makes for interesting art.
This painting was featured in Fine Art America's group Masks.
