Description
When I was a young teenager I went crabbing with my sister and brother-in-law. It seemed like we drove forever. The place we went to was beautiful. Although I live only a couple hours from the gulf I had never eaten crabs or gone crabbing. They showed me how to set the traps. I really wasn't expecting much in my trap the first time I went to check it. My trap was filled with several huge blue crabs. I had gone to beaches and seen little hermit crabs and I had assumed that was what we were going to catch. These were no hermit crabs. One crab could fill both my hands. Not that I wanted to pick one up. Their claws were very intimidating. Their colors were intriguing. We filled a few buckets with several large crabs. When we arrived back home my sister cooked the crabs. They tasted so wonderful. When I was painting this I wanted to capture the size and beauty of this delicious sea creature.

I lived on the Texas Gulf Coast Padre Island for many years. We would trap and cook these blue crabs also. Thanks for the memory! Great work!

Thank you, Debra!! I love Corpus Christi and Padre Island is absolutely beautiful!! I'm a Cajun Creole blend in South Central Louisiana. My uncle started a Dinner Club over 80 years ago in my home town with seafood as one of the main ingredients in many of his dishes. The Dinner Club is still going strong and is managed by the second and third generations.

Love the painting! As a child my mom's family and us use to go fir blue crabs in Tampa Bay. All you need was a chicken leg, string, and a net.
