My friends all know that I am into unconventional art. When my friend tore apart her cabinet iton her office to install a new one she saved the door. She told me to have fun with it. I did!!!
This door features a Courir de Mardi Gras masked rider. Question is, is he at the door, or in the door. Normally the riders have an unmasked captain that runs ahead of the riders to ask the home owners in the area if they would like the Mardi Gras participants to sing and dance for them in exchange for ingredients for their community gumbo. My elderly grandma told me one year the designated captain couldn't make it for Mardi Gras so a masked rider came to her door. She told me she was very surprised to see that. This is my folk art piece concerning that day in history. The door was slightly ajar in photograph to give the feeling of the masked participant popping in.

I am a Cajun-Creole grandmother who was raised in South Central Louisiana and I am trying to preserve my culture as well as the things I imagine. My Primitive Folk Art preserves the simple way of life that I love. I love my culture and the place where I live and I want to share it!! Watching over my father's shoulder is how I learned to paint. He did primitive folk art for local shops. I took several art classes in college as well as private lessons from some of Acadiana's finest artist beginning when my oldest child was in kindergarten.
