Artist's Description
I am not sure how this vine began to grow in an almost perfect ninety degree angle in a little wooded area in St. Landry Parish. Perhaps one of the many hurricanes that blew over Louisiana caused a limb or tree to fall in such a way to encourage this unusual growth pattern. It is unusual to see such a growth in a vine that is most often a series of gentle curves. Because it is winter at the time of the photograph I am uncertain of type of vine, my guess is it is either a wild grape vine or Blackjack. Perhaps if it is a Blackjack vine, a thirsty hiker cut the vine to get a drink to sooth their thirst.
