Jingle bells have been used at the ends of noses of the screen mask and used generously on the Courir de Mardi Gras costumes for decades. As a child the noise they made mesmerized me on Mardi Gras.
The Courier de Mardi Gras is a rural celebration. Participants go from house to house entertaining the home owner with music, dance, and comical antics. The farmers often will throw out a live chicken for the participants to capture for the gumbo.

I am a Cajun-Creole grandmother who was raised in South Central Louisiana and I am trying to preserve my culture as well as the things I imagine. My Primitive Folk Art preserves the simple way of life that I love. I love my culture and the place where I live and I want to share it!! Watching over my father's shoulder is how I learned to paint.
