Artist's Description

This display of a typical Acadian home at the Alexandria Zoological Park in Alexandria, Louisiana is very accurate. Acadiana is where the Cajuns and Creoles settled in South Central Louisiana. I can remember the studs of my grandmother's home being exposed until I was about 10 years old. Although most of the cotton was sent to the cotton gin after picking, it was a common thing to keep a bail or two to stuff mattresses, to use as batting in quilts, or if the family was lucky enough to have a spinning wheel and loom to weave into cloth. The large rocker in the corner looked like so many that I have seen in homes around Acadiana. Gourds were grown in Acadiana and were dried and used as bowls, cups, and scoops depending on their shape and size. It is a wonderful place to visit and remember the days of my youth.

About Seaux-N-Seau Soileau

Seaux-N-Seau Soileau

He did primitive folk art for local shops. I took several art classes in college as well as private lessons from some of Acadiana's finest artist beginning when my oldest child was in kindergarten. I learned several techniques and styles. I am now grandmother to ten grandchildren. I have been selling my folk art for almost as many years as I have been a mother. When capturing the culture of the...
