Description
It doesn't freeze often in Louisiana. Long ago before televisions and radio posted freeze warnings people in Louisiana was caught off guard. Adults often struggled with the cold while the children really enjoyed it. Farmers struggle to free a cow stuck in the swamp while children dance and play on the ice. This story is one of Charlene Richard as told to me by her brother John.
Charlene "was an ordinary girl who did things in an extraordinary way," her brother told me. Charlene is often referred to as "The Little Cajun Saint" even though investigation into her cause has only recently begun. Her classification today is Servant Of God. In this painting she is pictured celebrating the cold weather with her brother while her father and grandfather try to free a cow from the swamp. Charlene lived her life in the small community of Richard, Louisiana. She is buried at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Richard, Louisiana. Her grave has become a pilgrim spot for the thousands who are devoted to her cause not just from Louisiana but across the world.
