Description
I met a priest from Mexico who ran a home for orphans. He introduced me to Our Lady of Guadalupe when I was a very young girl. He told me "She embraces sinners, converts sinners, and weeps for sinners because she is Mother of our Lord." His words haunted me for many a decade and this painting is a result of our many conversations. I wanted this to be more than a painting. I added amber beads so that the sun's beams were warm and welcoming. I added soft pink floral ribbon for the dress so that if one imagined laying their head on her chest there was a built in pillow. I added a gold sequince ribbon around the edge of her mantle. I concidered gold metal beads but decided the sequince reflected a more childlike innocence that would be more welcoming to orphans and those who feel abandon.
