Visiting Grandma with my two brothers, I am coming down the steps in my favorite blue dress.
The steps on her porch lead to a attic room that was commonly used for the boys so that they could do early morning chores without bothering the rest of the family. Grandma had lots of pecan trees all around her house.
I am naturally blond but usually paint myself brunette when I am at Grandma's house. So many of my cousins inherited my Grandma's dark hair. I look more like my other three grandparents.
This is one of my favorite Folk Art paintings of Grandma's house because it is so primitive. Grandma's home still stands in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. It has two attic windows and three first story windows but I usually paint it smaller like it is in this painting. The house was divided into five rooms: living room, kitchen, two bedrooms, and bath.
