Thank you, I've written many lines too. A few for speaking French, I was 6 or 7 when law was taken off the books. Most of mine were for chattering with friends are laughing at inappropriate times.

Thank you Michael Hoard for featuring my art in the group Louisiana From A New Orleans Prospective!

Artist's Description

My mother told me of punishment that she received for speaking French in school. Cajun and Creole children were forced to speak English at school, even at recess. As a young child Mom only spoke English to us for fear we would be punished at school. I was never punished for speaking French but a few of my friends were. When my children were in school, French was taught as a Second Language. Today my grandchildren are in school. There are French Immersion Classes. Everyone in the class must speak French during school hours. We have come full circle. I am so grateful my parents lived long enough to see children being encouraged to speak French in school. Please notice how the word "Not" slowly fades with each line the student writes as the words "Speak French" get bolder and Bolder!!

About Seaux-N-Seau Soileau

Seaux-N-Seau Soileau

I learned several techniques and styles. I am now grandmother to ten grandchildren. I have been selling my folk art for almost as many years as I have been a mother. When capturing the culture of the...
