Artist's Description
This large rooster was captured in hopes of going into the large pot of gumbo. Will he make it to the gumbo pot this year?
Bring More Roux was painted in the traditional Cajun/Creole style taught to me by my parents and grandparents and that I teach to my granchildren. It is an art form done with much love and a lot of imagination. Riding on the back of the rooster is a band from Acadiana dressed in traditional Courir de Mardi Gras costumes. The instruments they play are common to this South Central Louisiana area. The washboard, triangle, fiddle, and accordion are all instruments that can be heard in both Cajun and Creole dance halls.
The original image was auctioned on Louisiana Public Broadcasting for their Friends of LPB Art and Travel Auction.

I learned several techniques and styles. I am now grandmother to ten grandchildren. I have been selling my folk art for almost as many years as I have been a mother. When capturing the culture of the...
