Description
Charlene Richard was a Cajun girl who had a great love for others. She was born on January 13, 1947. She lived an ordinary Cajun life. She lived in Richard, Louisiana. She attended church in Church Point, Louisiana at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved sports and played basketball. Her teacher commented that Charlene was not quite herself after she began seeing a ghost like appearance of a woman in black. Her mother took her to her doctor and she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. She offered up her suffering daily after the chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana suggested her suffering could benefit others if she offered it up. She died two weeks after being diagnosed on August 11, 1959. She was buried at St. Edwards Catholic Church Cemetery in Richard, Louisiana. Many visit her tomb each year. She is classified as a Servant Of God by the Catholic Church. I painted her in the swamps of South Louisiana where she loved to play. I painted her in white to signify her purity.
